ASABA, July 17, (THEWILL) – The smear campaign in the media against the new Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Victor Ochei is being orchestrated by Chief Edwin Clark, Honourable Godwin Ndudi Elumelu and Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, according to multiple sources at the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ochei had last week cried out that a series of ‘frivolous’ petitions against him have resurfaced all aimed at smearing his name and pulling him down ahead of the 2015 PDP governorship ticket, which has been zoned to the Delta North Senatorial District by party leaders in the state.

The petitions coupled with paid newspaper advertisements, sponsored news stories and features are part of a grand plot to smear Ochei’s name and make his job as Speaker difficult, THEWILL gathered from PDP sources.

“They believe Ochei is the front runner for the governorship ticket in 2015 because he is the highest ranking politician in government from the Anioma area of the state, so the likes of Ndudi Elumelu and Peter Nwaoboshi are not happy as they want to be governor in 2015 and have teamed up E.K Clark to attack Ochei,”one senior party official told THEWILL on Saturday.

Elumelu is presently facing charges for his alleged role in the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) fraud where about N5.2 billion was siphoned out of government coffers using fictitious companies.

Elumelu and Nwaoboshi did not respond to several phone calls to their phones on Sunday.
