We are on top of the Security situation in Aba -Area Commander

The Aba Area Commander of the Nigerian Police, ACP Rabiu Dayi has commended the efforts of his men in combating crime in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia state.

In a chat with the Police Chief in his office,he disclosed that the police is on top of the security situation in the commercial city as his men has taken the fight to the criminals in their den. He enjoined the public to assist the Police with information on criminals and their activities.

“Security is a collective effort which should not be left to the law enforcement agencies alone. We are not spirits, we can only work effectively when people assist us with information on criminals and their activities.

Everybody has a role in to ensure that the society is safe. Everybody should be involved ; the clergy, traditional rulers, schools and social groups.

This is because if there is problem, it will affect everybody, we all saw what happened in the past” he remarked.

ACP Dayi further stated that people should have the fear of God in them as this will help to reduce the problems of the society. He also condemned situations where some well placed individuals tend to influence the release of suspects because of their selfish interests, stressing that this attitude will not augur well for the society.

The Area Commander spoke on the recent success in crime fighting recorded by the Police in Aba. These include the arrest of operators of an illegal refinery in Ezendioma community in Ukwa West local council, the raids on York street, a notorious drug spot in Aba and criminal hideouts at Umule in Aba North council, Owerre – Aba and Alaoji in Ugwunagbo council , where suspected kidnappers were arrested.

Others include the arrest of the child trafficking kingpin, Dr. Hyacient Orikara and 32 pregnant ladies at his HEDA clinic, Brass street, Aba and sustaining the prevailing peace in the city after kidnappers led by Mr. Obioma

Nwankwo alias “Osisikankwu” and his gang had laid siege on Aba culminating in the closure of banks, schools , markets and the abduction of 15 pupils of Abayi International school, Aba, who were later rescued by a combined team of security operatives after a week in the kidnappers' den.

On the progress made,the crime burster said,“ I thank God for his mercies.

By this, I'm assuring Aba residents and environs that we are on top of the security situation in the city. They should go about their normal businesses and report suspected movements and activities to the Police”

He also commended the Army, who he said, have been complementing the activities of the Police in Aba and the entire Abia state.
