NFF/NFA CRISIS: NSC SUSPENDS VISIT TO FIFA

By NBF News

Following the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hurriedly convene an enlarged emergency congress to find a lasting solution to the lingering legal tussle over the Nigerian football governing body, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has suspended its planned trip to meet the world football governing body, FIFA, over the issue.

The federation, currently facing an eviction order from the solicitor-general to vacate the Glass House following a sworn affidavit, had arranged for an emergency congress on Wednesday to find a safe landing platform over the crisis.

The commission further hinged the decision to seek consultation with the members of the federation during the congress as part of its statutory responsibility, insisting that it is committed to settling the crisis.

The release signed by the media and publicity department of the commission and made available to the media, noted: 'As part of its statutory responsibility, the National Sports Commission (NSC), has proposed to engage in a consultation with the congress of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on issues of national interest concerning football.

'This is in furtherance of efforts by government aimed at resolving the lingering crisis in Nigeria football against the backdrop of series of court cases which has thrown the administration of the sport into a serious quagmire,' it noted.

It also disclosed that all former chairmen/presidents and secretaries-general of the Nigeria Football Association as well as members of the NFF board are expected to attend the dialogue with the management of the National Sports Commission to find lasting solutions to the current imbroglio.
