Goni Sheriff, the younger brother of the Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff and Modu Fanami Gubio, the Governorship Candidate of the All Nigeria peoples Party, ANPP and cousin to the Governor were among six others who were today shot dead by unknown gunmen according to a police source at the Borno State Police Command.

The motive for the killing was not immediately known but sources told Pointblanknews.com that it might not be unconnected with the insistence of the Governor to foist his cousin, Modu Fanami Gubio, as the next Governor of the State. Gubio who serves as the Commissioner for Finance was recently anointed as the ANPP, Governorship flag bearer with a huge support from Governor Sheriff.

Although other sources claim that the killing may have been masterminded by the Boko Haram sects who have vowed to make the state ungovernable for Governor Sheriff.

Sheriff and Gubio were both gunned down in front of Gubio's residence in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Effort to reach spokespersons for the Government was not fruitful.
