Liverpool Mulls Hodgson's Future

By NBF News

LIVERPOOL'S owners are considering whether to sack manager Roy Hodgson, but no decision has yet been taken, according to BBC Sport.

Liverpool is 12th in the Premier League table following Wednesday's 1-3 loss at Blackburn – its ninth defeat in 20 top-flight games this season. With over half the campaign gone, the 18-time league champion is currently four points above the relegation zone. The club was not expected to make an announcement yesterday.

Hodgson left Fulham to replace Spaniard Rafael Benitez at Anfield in July but has struggled to win over the Liverpool fans as his side has laboured in mid-table. A 0-1 home defeat by Wolves on December 29, 2010 piled the pressure on Hodgson before last weekend's last-gasp 2-1 win over Bolton looked to have earned him some breathing space.

However, following the poor performance at Ewood Park, Hodgson refused to discuss his future and said only that he felt “dejection, bitter disappointment, frustration” at the result.

The 63-year-old former boss of Inter Milan, Blackburn and Switzerland was appointed by Liverpool before the current owner, New England Sports Ventures, took over the club in October.
