President Goodluck Jonathan, his Deputy, Mr. Namadi Sambo and others on Wednesday endorsed Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State for the 2011 gubernatorial election. Speaking at a declaration rally of Governor Amaechi in Port Harcourt, the president said the governor had so much to show during his three years tenure in office.

President Jonathan, who spoke through his Deputy, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, said the massive developmental strides of the governor speak for him as one who would continue to serve the people better if re -elected in the 2011 polls.

The president noted that Amaechi's declaration was just a formality and asked for the people support in re-electing him in the coming elections.

'What I have seen today is a confirmation of what I saw two weeks ago when I was in Port Harcourt.' Earlier, former Board of Trustees chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih urged other contestants in the gubernatorial elections to return their tickets, adding that Governor Amaechi had all it takes to take Rivers to the Promise Land. Also speaking, Governor Amaechi said he was poised to tackle issues especially on education, health, poverty alleviation and security.

He said he would run 'a change agenda' aimed at transforming the lives of the people for the better.

'I will try in this campaign to duel on issues not abuses. The issues would be education, health poverty and security.'

He charged his fellow contestants to come and show what they have for the people. 'You must judge us based on our performance. I am ready for the competition,' he said. Other speakers at the rally however spoke on the need to re-elect Governor Amaeachi to continue with his good works.

The occasion was attended by some ministers, National Assembly members top PDP chieftains and Governor Imoke of Cross River State.
