NIGERIAN IDOL: FIRST TWO CONTESTANTS EMERGE

Viewers of Nigerian Idol were treated to another taste of why the reality show format has become an instant favourite after weeks of vigorous voting, crowd favourite Naomi Tare Mac and co-contestant Olamide Baruwa Etti a 400 level student of Babcock University defeated 8 other contestants to become the first two entrants into the Nigerian Idol Top Ten during the first Results Show. The results show was broadcast on Thursday 23rd December 2010.

Wael Ammar, Chief Commercial Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, responding to questions after the winners were announced said 'We promised that we would bring only the best in reality experience to our viewers during the show; and we have done this and more. Viewers are assured of an even more exciting time as we commence the second stage of the elimination phase of Nigerian Idol Top 50.'

Wael Ammar urged voters to continue sending in their votes in order to ensure their favourite contestants remain in the house. 'The voting public has never had it easier. They can vote via SMS by simply texting their favourite contestants number to the short code 34365 from any network or utilize our new unique service unique voting voice voting service. To vote by voice, Etisalat subscribers should simply dial their favourite contestant's number and wait for a confirmation message.'

Naomi Tare Mac, one of the two lucky entrants reiterated her belief in her abilities to make it into the top ten and beyond 'I'm so grateful to the voters who also believed in me and saw me through to this stage. I know that it's going to be tougher in the top ten, but I'm going to work even harder and give it my best shot. To my family who have stood firmly by me throughout the show, my friends and all those who believed in me enough to vote for me, I promise I will not disappoint you. Please keep praying for me and keep voting', she added.

Olamide Baruwa Etti, the suave and smooth 21 year old ladies' favourite with his cool, calm and collected swag, was still in excited shock when he was announced as having qualified for the Top 10 stage, 'At times like this, you become even more aware of how important the overwhelming support of fans is to an artiste. This is all very humbling to me. I'm still in a daze though but very happy. I look forward to better things from myself during the top ten.'

The first ever Nigerian Idol powered by lead sponsor, Etisalat Nigeria, will walk home with a cash prize of 7.5 million naira cash prize and a Sony BMG recording contract worth N5Million, an ipad, a blackberry phone from Etisalat with one year subscription and a number of other mouthwatering gifts. The 1st runner up will go home with N1, 500, 000 with exciting prizes gifts while the 2nd runner up will receive a cash prize of N1, 000, 000. Every one of the other top ten finalists is also assured of very exciting prizes.

The broadcast of the Nigerian Idol on selected television stations across the country is aired on Sundays on NTA Network at 4pm, 5pm on AIT Network and then 6pm on STV. It is also on Galaxy TV, TVC and Superscreen all in Lagos at various other times on Sunday evenings. KWTV Ilorin, DBSTV Asaba, IMOTV, DITV Kaduna, PRTV Jos.
