Franklin said she is receiving daily visits from a private nurse

Soul singer Aretha Franklin is out of hospital after undergoing surgery for an undisclosed illness.

“I've been at home for almost three days now,” she said in a statement. “My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me.”

Unconfirmed reports have claimed the 68-year-old star has been receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer.

In November the singer – said to be “in great spirits” – cancelled all public appearances for six months.

Earlier this month Franklin thanked fans for their prayers after undergoing what she said had been “highly successful” surgery.

In her statement, she added that a private nurse was visiting her at home on a daily basis.

The singer added that she hoped to see a production of musical Dreamgirls in her home city of Detroit before it closes.

Best known for such hits as Think and Respect, the multi-Grammy Award winner is often referred to as “the Queen of Soul”.

In 1987 she became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
