FIFA Suspends Adamu, Five Officials For Between One And Four Years
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 18, (THEWILL) - World soccer governing body, FIFA, today said its Ethic Committee banned six officials of the association including Nigeria's Dr Amos Adamu, who got a three-year ban from participating in any football related activity following proof they breached various FIFA Code of Ethics with regards to inducements.
The statement on FIFA's website reads:
"The FIFA Ethics Committee, under the chairmanship of Claudio Sulser (Switzerland) and in a panel also composed of Petrus Damaseb (Namibia), Juan Pedro Damiani (Uruguay), Dominique Rocheteau (France), Dali Tahir (Indonesia) and Robert Torres (Guam), has decided to ban six football officials from taking part in any football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for periods of between one and four years after they were found to have breached various articles of the FIFA Code of Ethics. The decisions, which were taken during a three-day meeting of the Ethics Committee held in Zurich between 15 and 17 November 2010, are the following:• Reynald Temarii (FIFA vice-president) was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for a period of one year. Furthermore, he was fined CHF 5,000.• Amos Adamu (FIFA Executive Committee member) was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for a period of three years. Furthermore, he was fined CHF 10,000.• Slim Aloulou (chairman of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and member of the FIFA Players’ Status Committee) was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for a period of two years. Furthermore, he was fined CHF 10,000.• Ahongalu Fusimalohi (General Secretary of the Tonga FA) was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for a period of three years. Furthermore, he was fined CHF 10,000.• Amadou Diakite (member of the FIFA Referees Committee) was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for a period of three years. Furthermore, he was fined CHF 10,000.• Ismael Bhamjee (CAF honorary member) was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for a period of four years. Furthermore, he was fined CHF 10,000.
"FIFA had opened proceedings against the two Executive Committee members on 18 October 2010 and had requested the Ethics Committee to conduct an independent, in-depth investigation into the matter. On 20 October, the Ethics Committee had provisionally suspended the six officials (cf. media release from 20 October: Two members of the FIFA Executive Committee provisionally suspended).
"Finally, the Ethics Committee examined the information related to alleged agreements between member associations and their Bid Committees in relation to the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup™ bidding process, but did not find enough evidence of a violation of the Bid Registration document and the Code of Ethics."
