Trabzonspor Agree Deal With Southampton For Onuachu
Paul Onuachu is on the verge of making a permanent move to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, with the club reportedly agreeing an €8 million fee with Southampton. The Nigeria international had a successful loan stint at Trabzonspor during the 2023/24 season, scoring 15 goals in just 21 league appearances. His commanding performances led to the club’s strong desire to retain him permanently, and that ambition now appears close to being realized.
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Trabzonspor and Southampton have finalized the transfer fee, and the next steps involve Onuachu agreeing on personal terms and undergoing a medical. Once those formalities are completed, the deal will be made official.
Onuachu joined Southampton from Belgian side KRC Genk in January 2023 but struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League. His loan move to Turkey reignited his career, with his aerial prowess and finishing ability proving a perfect fit for Trabzonspor's system. His performances earned praise from fans and pundits alike, making his return to the Black Sea Storm a priority for the club's management.
With the Turkish club keen to bolster their attacking options for the 2025/26 season, Onuachu’s return is seen as a major step toward achieving domestic and European ambitions. Talks are progressing smoothly, and the deal could be announced in the coming days.
Should the transfer go through, Onuachu will be expected to lead the line once more for Trabzonspor and replicate the form that made him one of the most feared forwards in the Super Lig last season. His move would also mark another major Nigerian presence in Turkish football.
