Premier League Fines Man City £1m Over Repeated Timekeeping Breaches

Manchester City has been fined £1 million by the Premier League for multiple breaches of matchday punctuality rules during the 2024/2025 season. This comes after the club admitted to violating Rule L.33 on nine separate occasions.

Rule L.33 requires clubs to ensure matches begin promptly and that second halves restart on time. Failure to comply leads to fines, which increase with each infraction. City was initially fined £40,000 for the first breach, but the cumulative penalties escalated to a final figure of £190,000 for the ninth offence bringing the total to £1 million.

The Premier League disclosed that Manchester City cooperated fully and accepted responsibility for the repeated breaches. “Each breach was addressed, but the club’s repeated lateness forced an increase in disciplinary measures,” a source noted.

Pep Guardiola’s men are currently participating in the Club World Cup and are yet to officially comment on the fine. The development comes after a disappointing domestic campaign where the reigning champions finished third, ending their four-year dominance in the English top flight.

While City remains focused on their international fixtures, this fine adds to a growing list of administrative hurdles the club has faced in recent seasons.

The Premier League emphasized the importance of punctuality and fair play in match proceedings, especially for televised games and global audiences. “Repeated breaches disrupt broadcast schedules and undermine league standards,” the governing body added.

Despite the setback, Guardiola’s side is pushing for silverware abroad and preparing for a new chapter following the departure of key figures like Kevin De Bruyne.

This fine serves as a stern reminder to all Premier League clubs about the importance of adhering strictly to matchday protocols.
