Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid debut ended in a 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal at the FIFA Club World Cup in Miami. The former Liverpool star, donning the No. 12 shirt, featured for 65 minutes and had a mixed performance. Al-Dawsari proved difficult for him to handle in the first half, but he grew into the game after the break, linking up with Vinicius Jr and showing flashes of his trademark passing range.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 34th minute through academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia, who finished off a sharp counter-attack. Al-Hilal responded before halftime as Ruben Neves calmly converted a penalty after a VAR review. Despite an improved second-half showing by Madrid, the game ended level after Federico Valverde’s last-minute penalty was saved by Al-Hilal keeper Bounou.

Manager Xabi Alonso, also making his debut on the Madrid bench, admitted the first half was below expectations but praised the squad’s reaction after the break. He stressed that the match offered valuable lessons as they continue their Club World Cup campaign.

Alexander-Arnold described his debut as “an incredible day,” appreciating the passionate support from fans in Miami. While expressing disappointment at not securing a win, he remained upbeat about the team’s performance and their prospects in the tournament. He also highlighted the importance of adapting to the new environment and embracing Spanish culture.

Real Madrid will next face Mexican side Pachuca on Sunday before rounding off their Group H fixtures against Red Bull Salzburg. With more game time and experience, Alexander-Arnold will be hoping to make a bigger impact as Madrid push for Club World Cup glory under their new manager.
