Amorim Reacts to Roy Keane's Criticism, Admits Man United Deserve the Backlash
Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim, has acknowledged the scathing criticism from former captain Roy Keane, admitting the team’s performance this season warrants such backlash.
Keane recently described United as “a disgrace” after they slipped far off the Premier League title race. Amorim, while preparing his side for a crucial clash against West Ham, responded by saying he respects Keane’s views and understands the frustration.
Speaking to reporters, Amorim stated that criticism comes with the job, especially when managing a club with Manchester United's legacy.
He noted that Keane and other club legends operate with a high standard, and the team’s recent displays have fallen short of those expectations.
“I understand Roy Keane’s comments,” Amorim said. “He played at the highest level and knows what success at this club looks like. When results aren’t good, people will talk—and rightfully so.”
Despite a difficult league campaign that sees United languishing in 15th place with just a few games left, Amorim reminded fans of the team’s progress in Europe.
United secured a Europa League final berth after edging past Athletic Bilbao and will now face Tottenham for a shot at continental silverware.
Amorim also shouldered personal responsibility for the team's struggles, saying he has made several tactical and managerial errors throughout the season.
However, he emphasized that his decisions have always been aimed at long-term improvement, not short-term approval.
“I have to focus on what’s best for the club,” he added. “That may not always align with what others want, but it’s the reality of leadership.”
The Portuguese tactician remains hopeful his side can end the season on ah note hig
