Two Former Boxing Champions Battle Cancer
Two former boxing champions, Israel Vasquez and Vanes Martirosyan have been reportedly diagonised of cancer and are currently battling the disease.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) have sent their heart felt statements to the two former WBC title holders, thereby urging people to support them financially through donation.
The WBC extended their best wishes to Vazquez and Martirosyan.
“Our beloved champion has received a devastating cancer diagnosis,” said the WBC, urging fans to donate to an organized GoFundMe account. “The WBC is at his side, attempting to bring in his family from Mexico and ensuring he gets the care he deserves. But he needs your love and support, too"
“Show this humble and courageous warrior what he means to you, with a dollar, a prayer, and a note to his family. One of the most compelling and compassionate boxers of all time needs your help. There’s no time to waste. Stand in his corner, now!”
On Martirosyan, the sanctioning body added, “The WBC family and the boxing community of the world join in prayers for a successful and prompt recovery of Vanes Martirosya who is under treatment for squamous cell carcinoma cancer. Let’s pray for Vanes, our proud champion from Armenia.”
Martirosyan received a repost from Billy Dib, who successfully battled his way through cancer after a 2022 diagnosis.
Dib said on October 31, “Two years ago this month, my life was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt lymphoma. In an instant, everything shifted. The ring where I once fought became a hospital room, and my opponent was cancer.”
