Icelandic Player, Guðmundsson Declared Innocent Of Sexual Assault Charges
Icelandic professional footballer and attacking midfielder for Florentina has been pronounced innocent of sexual assault charges today by Reykjavík District Court.
Last year, a sexual assault charges was filed against the Serie a forward by a woman in her twenties. The accuser requested three million ISK for damages, while Albert stood his ground by asserting that he was innocent .
The woman sued Albert in August last year. The police investigated the case and referred it to the District Prosecutor Héraðssaksóknari who dropped it this spring with the argument that it was not likely to result in a conviction.
After thorough investigation, it was reported today that Albert has been acquitted after Reykjavík District Court declared him innocent of the charges on him.
Albert Guðmundsson released a statement following court declaration proving him innocent.
Innocent!
This is the clear conclusion of the District Court of Reykjavik in a judgement tendered today. Whilst at all times confident of a positive outcome of the case the judgement comes with some relief. it's been a tough year, honestly, and not easy to deal with mentally but I have learned that my family and friends are everything to me, and I will be forever grateful to them. Lastly I would like to express that I will never endorse any form of violence. As a father of two children, including a young daughter and having three young sisters. I sincerely hope that this case will not cause any harm to other women. who are genuine victims of violence. I can now move forward with my life and concentrate on what I do best.
One love Albert.
