Rivers PDP Seeks Mrs Jonathan’s Intervention On Prosecuted Members

By PDP, Rivers State

As Mrs Patience Jonathan visits Rivers State on Monday, the founding Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction in the State seeks her timely intervention on the arrest, detention and prosecution of party faithfuls who have suffered several misfortunes and have been labelled with several disrespectful names for merely assembling to chart their political future.

Members specifically urge Her Excellency to ask Governor Rotimi Amaechi why mothers who are PDP members are being falsely arrested, detained, intimidated and prosecuted for no other offences but the mapping out of political strategies to make themselves relevant in the scheme of things in the State and country, especially as the South-South is drumming up support for her dear husband, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who should rightly and freely contest the 2011 presidential elections.

These mothers fought for PDP in 2007 when Governor Amaechi, his wife and mother were in self exile in Ghana.

Noteworthy is the fact also that Mrs Nancy Nwankwo, who served once as State Commissioner for Women Affairs, is a Pastor in a church and, believably, would only get involved in issues that would uplift womanhood and develop the State.

As the mother of the nation, Her Excellency would not keep quiet when things go out of place as is the case in the Rivers PDP where factions have arisen and are now on each other, with government turning State machinery against founding members.

It might also please the First Lady to find out why the First Lady of the State, Mrs Judith Amaechi has not shown any concern over the undeserved tribulation being meted out to her fellow mothers who did not run foul of the law but are not to face trumped up charges of cultism and illegal possession of firearms days after they were merely charged for illegal assembly and setting up of rival PDP Secretariat.

The country's First Lady should also endeavour to unravel the reasons why the State governor prefers to chorus with the likes of Governor Bukola Saraki rather than key into the presidential project of Dr Jonathan and work for his emergence as PDP flag bearer and president of the country after the elections, while she enjoys a warm welcome by all party members in the State and the masses whose future can be brightened up by assurances from her noble heart.
