ENUGU LAWMAKER DIES …2 WEEKS AFTER WIFE

By NBF News

A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly Mr. Emmanuel Maduabu, who was involved in an auto crash which claimed his wife, driver and an unidentified commuter bus driver, a fortnight ago, has died. The lawmaker, representing Awgu South Constituency, died yesterday after two weeks in coma, following the fatal auto crash along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

He was confirmed dead by doctors at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, (UNTH), Enugu, who had battled to save his life since the accident occurred.

Maduabu was said to have gone into coma and could hardly speak because of severe injuries he sustained in the crash.

A 608 Mass Transit bus had collided with the lawmaker's Mercedes Benz car. He was returning to Enugu after a meeting with members of his constituency that weekend. Both drivers of the vehicles and the lawmaker's wife died instantly.

The corpses of his wife and the two drivers were deposited at the UNTH mortuary while he was admitted at the hospital for treatment but his condition was said to be critical throughout his stay at the intensive care unit.

Some of his colleagues who visited reported that he would require the special grace of God to survive the crash.

Members of the Assembly suspended their sitting after the news of their colleague's death was received by the Speaker, Mr. Eugene Odoh, yesterday.

The speaker reportedly led members of the Assembly to the hospital to confirm the death and give the nod for his remains to be deposited in the mortuary pending burial arrangements.

Efforts to fly the deceased abroad for medical attention reportedly failed due to inability of his family to meet with the huge financial involvement. Efforts to source for the fund elsewhere failed before he passed on Tuesday.
