FG, OONI WADE INTO LAUTECH CRISIS

The ownership crisis over the Ladoke Akintola University, (LAUTECH) inched towards a permanent resolution yesterday after a two-hour meeting at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

The meeting which was presided over by the Ooni had in attendance the governors of Osun and Oyo states, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Prof Oladapo Afolabi.

After the two-hour meeting, Prof Afolabi who briefed the press disclosed that the joint committee on the crisis had been expanded to include the National University Commission (NUC ) as observer, the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof Ladimeji Oke and his successor, Prof Salawu.

The committee, according to him, is to come up with a final decision on the joint ownership by February 2011. It is also to name an acting Vice Chancellor for the school in the next 14 days from.

Earlier, the NUC had given the owners of the institution till August 11 year to resolve the issue of who the Vice Chancellor is among other matters that cropped up while the crisis lasted otherwise it would withdraw the licence of the university.
