Liverpool emerged the victorious side as they claimed their first community shield title in 16 years. Having been denied by Man City and Arsenal in their last 2 encounter they saved face and started the season with a win.
The match took place at the King Power Stadium rather than the traditional Wembley, the two teams did not hold back as they were equally matched.

And it was another new signing - Julian Alvarez - who netted the equaliser, staying alert after Phil Foden's shot was saved to poke home from close range, with the goal awarded after a lengthy VAR check.
VAR came into play again with eight minutes remaining after referee Craig Pawson adjudged - from looking at the pitchside monitor - that Ruben Dias commited a fowl to keep Nunez header aout of the net however Mohamed Salah edged Liverpool back in front by scoring from the penalty spot and extending their lead thereafter
And Nunez had the final say, stooping to head in from close range before wheeling off to celebrate in front of his new supporters
