Frenkie De Jong Open To Leave Barca

Netherlands mid fielder, Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona has dominated the headlines for the past month or so and the situation may finally be coming to a head at last.

The Catalans have been pushing to sell the 25-year-old due to their financial situation and Manchester United have been hot on his trail as new manager Erik ten Hag seeks to reunite with his former ward.

Fresh reports claims that de Jong has now given the green light for a transfer from Barcelona to Manchester United, despite his initial reluctance to make the jump to the Premier League club.

De Jong has constantly maintained that he wishes to stay put at Camp Nou, but it has become clear now that the club have placed him on the transfer list. And having grown disappointed by the development, the Dutchman has accepted his fate and is now open to leaving.

The midfielder also waited if Champions League clubs like Manchester City, PSG or Bayern Munich come up with offers for him. However, there has been no concrete interest from any other club apart from United due to Barça’s €80 million valuation.

De Jong had been apprehensive over a switch to Old Trafford due to them not playing Champions League football next term. However, he has now opened the door to a transfer to Manchester United.

Barcelona’s attempts at offloading him, coupled with the presence of ten Hag at Manchester United, who has promised him a central role in the project, has changed the Netherlands’ star’s mind, as per the report.

Now, it is up to the two clubs to sort out an agreement for the transfer. As iterated earlier, Barça are demanding a fixed sum of €80 million for the midfielder. But, Manchester United have been reluctant to meet that offer.

There have been recent reports of the Red Devils offering €60 million plus bonuses, but Barcelona remain firm on their stance. De Jong is a top footballer with his prime years in front of him and has a long contract. So, they will not back down from the €80 million asking price.

Furthermore, the Catalan giants want to close the sale before June 30 to help balance the books and have informed United of the same to accelerate negotiations.
