Kelechi Iheanacho was the hero as the Super Eagles earned a 1-0 win over Egypt in their first match at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Augustine Eguavoen started with Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon as the attackers.

Nigeria started on a good note as they contained the Pharaohs of Egypt and also bumped forward.

The likes of Kenneth Omeruo, Zaidu Sanusi kept Mohammed Salah silent denying him the space to operate.

Ndidi marshalled the midfield winning all the battles and providing the shield.

The Super Eagles got a goal that their dominance deserved following a stunning goal from Kelechi Iheanacho on the half-hour mark.

After the goal, the team continued to play entertaining football causing problems for the Egyptians but they could not add to the solitary goal at the end of the first half.

Taiwo Awoniyi struck the woodwork early in the second half.

Maduka Okoye saved Mohammed Salah's effort when the Liverpool man was clean through on goal.

The Super Eagles held on to victory with an impressive performance to earn the maximum points.
