AFCON: Boufal's Late Goal Condemn Ghana To Opening Defeat

By Ibrahim Taiwo, The Nigerian Voice Sports

Morocco earned a 1-0 win over Ghana in the opening match of Group C at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The match was billed to be the biggest match of the day, but it didn't live up to expectations as it produced no entertaining moment.

The first half ended goalless as both sides tried to size up each other.

The second half produced some goal-scoring moments but it was the Atlas Lions Morocco that took advantage of that to seal maximum points.

Sofiane Boufal's 82nd-minute was enough to help them to a winning start.

The former Southampton star latched on to a loose ball before burying his effort into the top corner.

Joseph Paintsil's screamer was saved by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in an uneventful second half for Ghana.

Morocco held on to earn maximum points.
Guinea defeated Malawi 1-0 in the other Group C match.
