Arsenal recorded a 2-0 win over Newcastle to boost their top-four hopes.

The Gunners recovered from a 4-0 thrashing against Liverpool last weekend with a dominant win against the Magpies.

The first half ended goalless before Bukayo Saka finished off a through pass from Nuno Tavares to open the scoring for the hosts just before the hour-mark.

Ten minutes later substitute Gabriel Martinelli added the second goal with just his second touch of the game.

Aaron Ramsdale was on top of his game to deny Jonjo Shelvey with a superb save.

Newcastle still remain without a win in the Premier League.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said it was a good performance from his team.

Sport: "I thought it was a good performance, especially the start. We were good for the first half an hour. We came under pressure. The game was decided in the incident with Callum Wilson and the penalty - a tough call against us – then they scored in the aftermath.

"I don’t know why Callum would go down – he was one on one, a great chance. Games swing on those moments. It feels like those big calls have gone against us.

"Great save [from Aaron Ramsdale to deny Jonjo Shelvey]. I thought it was in. The pleasing thing today is how we started and finished the game. We created chances. Ramsdale has played well. We weren’t clinical but at least we were creating chances.

Arsenal are level on point with fourth placed West Ham.
