Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel believes he would be able to convince Romelu Lukaku to return to Stamford Bridge should Chelsea manage to persuade Inter Milan to sell, according to The Telegraph.

A couple of months ago, Tuchel insisted that he would not pick up his phone to speak to potential transfer targets . He is just not good at communicating via phone calls, he argued.

Lukaku could be an exception, as The Telegraph's report suggests Tuchel would be ready to speak to the striker over a potential Chelsea return.

Well, Tuchel is said to be a big fan of the 28-year-old.

Also, Tuchel's involvement might be necessary to seal the deal since Lukaku himself seems happy to stay at Inter. The Telegraph even claims that the Belgium international will not push for a move despite Chelsea's interest.

Thus, first and foremost, the Blues will have to persuade Inter to sell, likely with a big-money offer.

While Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has clarified that Lukaku is “non-transferrable” this summer , an earlier report from Tuttosport claims they still set an asking price for the striker .

The price tag, according to The Telegraph, is “well above” what Chelsea are prepared to pay, but the London side still has one month to negotiate.

However, given how much money that Chelsea would have to fork out for either Lukaku or Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland, there is of course a possibility that they will not be able to land a new striker.

Tuchel has reportedly not ruled out the prospect of starting the season with Kai Havertz and Timo Werner as his first-choice strikers.
