Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Gareth Bale told him he is not interested in playing for Real Madrid against Man City.

The Los Blancos are in Champions League action against Man City at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of their round of 16 tie.

Manchester City won the first leg 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale has been involved in series of issues in the last two seasons, the fans have whistled him and he pretended to be asleep on the bench as Real Madrid won the Laliga title.

"It was a personal conversation I had with him. He preferred not to play," said Zidane.

"The rest remains between me and him but he said he didn't want to play."

According to BBC, Bale decided not to travel to Manchester because he knew he had no chance of being involved in the match.

Bale only started 14 matches in all competition for Real Madrid last season and only played two in the Restart.

Zidane refused to comment if Bale has a future at Real Madrid

"I respect that and I respect him, like everyone else.

"He preferred not to play. That is the only thing I can tell you. The rest of us are all here, preparing for the game. The only thing we are concentrating on is the game."

The winner between Real Madrid and Man City will face either Juventus or Lyon.
