Chinese target Ighalo staying at Watford, says agent

Nigeria striker, Odion Ighalo is expected to stay at Watford in the January transfer window, despite persistent interest from the Chinese Super League. Ighalo has netted just one Premier League goal for Watford

this season, which has prompted question marks over whether he could be on the move in January. Serie A outfit Napoli have been linked with the 27-year-old, while Chinese pair Shanghai SIPG and Hebei China Fortune have both previously made big-money bids for the Nigerian. However, Ighalo’s agent, Patrick Bastianelli, believes he will stay put at Vicarage Road and has backed the striker to rediscover the form which saw him net 15 Premier League goals last season. Ighalo is an important player and he did

receive a lot of interest but he is determined to do well at

Watford,” he said. “Napoli? [Giampaolo] Pozzo’s [Watford owner] strategy is to

keep his good players and he does not like to sell any, especially not in January.

“He went through rough times (because of his father’s death) but he is now determined and motivated. He scored 15 goals last season and he can even do better.”
