Kevin-Prince Boateng hopes to be at the World Cup with Ghana

The Ghana Football Association says German midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has been cleared to play for them.

This means the 23-year-old Portsmouth midfielder will be available to line up for the Black Stars at this summer's World Cup in South Africa.

Boateng was named in Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac's 30-man squad for the finals despite the delay in his application to switch nationality.

Boateng will join the Ghana team for the first time in France later in May.

Two years ago, he chose to play for the Black Stars ahead of Germany, the country of his birth.

Boateng's father is a Ghanaian but the midfielder played for the German youth national teams before deciding to represent the Black Stars.

His uncle Robert played for Ghana in the 1990's.
With Ghana in the same group as Germany it means that if Kevin-Prince is included in the final Black Stars' squad he could come up against his brother Jerome, who is in Germany's preliminary squad for South Africa.

Fifa has removed the age limit for players who want to switch national allegiance.

Previously players who had represented one country at youth level had to make the choice to change by the age of 21.
