The President, Grant Properties Limited, Revd. Jide Awosedo, has described the zoning of the governorship seat in the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party to any part of the state as against the tenets of democracy.

In Awosedo's estimation, if the three divisions of the state claimed to be descendants of Oduduwa, who is widely known to be the progenitor of all Yoruba, it would amount to a contradiction to attempt to zone the governorship seat among the same family.

He said this during a press conference to announce his plan to contest the governorship seat of the PDP in Odogbolu, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Wednesday.

Awosedo said, 'One of the things we hear in Ogun State is that the governorship seat of the PDP has been zoned to a particular zone or group. All Yoruba and all of us in Ogun State, the Ijebu, the Yewa, the Egba, are all from the same ancestral parents. If we are from the same parents, how then do you reconcile the issue of zoning from children of the same parentage?

'The issue of zoning is not relevant in democracy; it is undemocratic. The beauty of democracy is that the people have the opportunity to determine who they want as their leaders; they have the right to choose who they want.'

Giving a long list of the areas where he believed the state had not made enough progress over the years, the governorship aspirant explained that his membership of the parallel body of the state PDP was informed by his conviction that the founding fathers of the party in the state should have a say in the PDP.
