BEVERLY HILLS, August 11, (THEWILL) – Mounting suspicions that young Nigerians seeking to travel abroad may end up increasing the ranks of ISIS has forced the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to block 24,000 school leavers from leaving the country.

According to the spokesman of the service, Mr. Chukwuemeka Obuah, the restriction has been on for about 15 months.

He told the BBC that this became necessary because Nigeria has been named as a recruitment ground of the militant group because of its high rate of unemployed young men.

“The terrorist group has a syndicate that arranges visas, tickets and money for their recruits,” he said, stressing that those who had fled the country end up with them.

It is estimated by the UN's Office on Drugs and Crime that 10% of immigrants from West Africa to Europe are forced into work in their countries of destination.
