By Mazi Oderaigbo

The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has called on wealthy Nigerians to shun conspicuous life and spare the money they use for boisterous merriment into assisting in the rebuilding of the educational institutions all over the country. Obi was speaking when he visited Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Adani in Enugu State at the weekend.

This is the second time Obi was visiting the school this year.

Explaining the genesis of his visit, Obi said that During the New Year worship with the Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary at Nkpor, they brought to his attention, the unfortunate fire incidence in one of their schools at Adani, where the hostel of their students were burnt down. Obi said that at that point, he made up his mind to visit the school.

During the first visit, he gave them 1 million Naaira to start the renovation of the burnt hostel. After he was conducted round the hostel to access the progress of rebuilding by the principal of the school, Rev. Sr. Jane-Mariette Onuoha, Obi presented another cheque of 1 Million Niara to them.

Expressing satisfaction at such visits, Obi said that since he left office, that he had been raising money from individuals and corporate organizations to donate to schools as part of his social responsibility, a way of paying back to the society that had been kind to him. "I do this because as a former Governor, I recognize that Government would not do it alone," Obi said.

The principal of the school thanked him for his support and numerous supports for worthy causes. He assured him that the school would continue to remember him in prayers. OBI, who has been visiting an average of one school per month, has donated to schools in all the parts of the country.
