Underscoring the importance attached to the sector by his administration, the Governor disclosed that, a large percentage of the State's budget is voted annually for the sector.

According to Governor Dickson his passion for education informed the administration's decision to undertake the establishment of a number of tertiary institutions, which include the Teachers Training Institute, Bolou Orua, International School of Tourism and Hospitality, School of Agriculture in Sagbama, among others.

The Governor, who expressed commitment to move the education sector to greater heights, noted that the College of Education, Sagbama now has an enrolment of over 2000 students.

His words: “We have set up so many schools and this is because of the priority that, we have placed on human capacity development. Not too long from now, our state will invite you and we hope you will be gracious to grant us the benefit of your presence once again, so that we can commission and put to use these tertiary institutions, particularly the Teachers Training Academy, which is a very fantastic edifice. It is almost a university of its own. I will like us to visit it and see how we can get your collaborative support.

“We are open to partnerships, because education is too important a subject matter and we need partnerships to improve the sector. We are here to work with you. I am happy that the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Educational Fund (TETFUND) is here and I hope you will find time to come some other time, so that you don't assess the needs of the federal institutions here alone, but also the state-owned higher institutions. I know that with your support and the partnership from TETFUND and other agencies from your ministry, we will work together to take education to the next level.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, said he was in the state accompanied by the Executive Secretary of TETFUND to undertake an on the spot assessment of the Federal University of Otuoke, inOgbia Local Government Area of the state to assess the level of progress being made in line with the funds being provided for the university.
