The girls between the ages of 16 and 18 gained freedom with the help of a young teenage prisoner, who helped them escape from the camp where they being held captive, Stephen Davis, the controversial British-Australian negotiator told The Times of London.

Davis, who had tried unsuccessfully to help negotiate the release of the schoolgirls, said the girls walked for about three weeks and arrived at a village, starving and traumatized.

Their escape is coming barely three weeks after a girl believed to be one of those abducted was found by the police on a highway in Adamawa State. Reports said she was dropped off by the terrorists after she got pregnant in the camp.

The Nigerian military has not commented on the development as at press time.
