In The Memory Of The Late Senate President And 4 Others

By Ibrahim Kabiru Dallah

Comrade Donald Onukaogu and 4 other members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) passed away on the 13th of June, 2013 but a year ago today was the last time we were laughing together. That's the ONLY day I like to remember.

It is not longer news that Comrade Donald Onukaogu, Comrade Abdulazeez Oladimije, Comrade Jerry Sorka, and Comrade Japhet Duru and Comrade Asa died in a ghastly motor accident in Umuahia, the capital city of Abia State on Thursday 13th June, 2013 while travelling on an official trip to the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to intervene on the crisis that led to the death of 4 Nigerian Students in the University of Uyo.

I cannot believe that I have lived for one whole year without the physical presence of my Comrades. Not a day goes by in which I do not think of them especially my friend, brother, leader, travelling and hotel room mate Comrade Abdulazeez Olaimije of Oyo State and University of Ibadan. He was so kind to me, Tijani Usman Shehu and any other person that came across him. Abdulazeez passing continues to leave a gaping hole in my struggle life, the most painful thing is that after one year his KAFTAN is still with me in Abuja and I don't know where to locate his family house in Ibadan, Oyo State. I am saddened and shocked with the situation I have found myself into.

I Miss you all more than words could ever fully express and my heart is full with the unspoken words of Comrade Donald and Abdulazeez.

I am aware, Comrades never really wanted to talk much about the death of the Senate President of NANS and 4 others. I can understand that - I mean, after all, who wants to talk about their death because it was one of the greatest nightmare in the "HISTORY OF NANS". Please I should be forgiven because this might be my last "TRIBUTE" to them in order to avoid heart attacks.

Donald also known as DON BABA and 4 others are now already so for a long time away, but nevertheless always still quite near with us!!! I miss you all.

The generosity of Donald while he was still alive here is going to be continued to be appreciated in the rest of our lives. If more people in the struggle for emancipations of Nigerian Students would be as generous as when Donald was with us, then there would be peace in NANS forever. Donald and 4 others memory will be with us forever. They will never be forgotten with love now and always.

It is worrisome that Donald died when Nigerian Students needed him most in order to review the NANS CONSTITUTION AND CHARTER OF DEMAND.

You know, I could go on and on. The memories flood my mind and fill my heart.

Conclusively, May almighty God grants the families of the deceased the fortitude to continue to bear this irreparable loss.

Adieu Great Comrades, My Heart Bleed.
