Gov Dickson In Shock, Disbelief As Prof Dora Akinyuli Passes On . Says Bayelsa Will Miss Her Wise Counsel, Partnership

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon Seriake Dickson has expressed deep shock, regret and disappointment over the untimely death of Nigeria's one time Minister of Information and National Orientation, Professor Dora Akinyuli, who died on Saturday (7thof June, 2014) morning at an Indian hospital, after a long battle with a cancer related ailment.

In a statement, Governor Dickson said, he received the news of Professor Akinyuli's death with a deep sense of loss and disbelief, describing her passage as a great loss to her family, state and Nigeria, stressing that, she gave her very best to every assignment and position she held at various times and levels of society.

According to him, she would be remembered amongst others, for her pioneering and pace setting roles as Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC), during which time, she fought patriotically to bring an end to the fake and adulterated drug syndrome in the healthcare delivery system in the country.

He further stated that, as Minister of Information and Orientation, she delivered on her mandate with utmost diligence, commitment and a unique disposition, that has placed as one of the best that ever held the reins in that all important Federal Ministry.

Governor Dickson noted that, she will be greatly missed by the governemnet and people of Bayelsa State, especially her wise counsel in a number of health related projects and programmes in the state, including the pact on the setting up of the First National Drugs Distribution Center in Yenagoa, to check the selling and distribution of fake drugs in the Niger Delta.

While describing her death as a great loss, he prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and uged her immedite family to take solace in the fact, she has left worthy footprints in the sands of time.
