ASUP And COEASU Strike: NANS, NAPS, NDYC And Others Threaten Nation Wide Protest

The leadership of Nigerian students comprises of the National Association of Polytechnic Students which cut across all colleges of education in line with the ongoing strike affecting the polytechnics and colleges of Education in Nigeria since October 2013.

The meeting held yesterday with other stakeholders in the Education sector at Nwafor Orizo College of Education Nsogbe Anambra State, the Students body threatened to go on a peaceful protest if there demands is not met within one week.

In a statement issued on Monday in Awka, Anambra. State by NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Victor Olaogun, National Coordinator of the Niger-Delta Youths Council Comrade Jator Abido and Comr Okorie Ikechukwu Santos Zone B Coordinator on behalf of the coaliation of the Students and youth leaders in Nigeria, noted that for transformation agenda of Mr President to be achieved to the fullest, the government must do justice to the education sector.

The students bodies said if not for the timely intervention of the Former NANS Leader Comrade Jator Abido due their accumulated grievances but he assured them that the strike will be resolved within the shortest period of time.

"This struggle started in April 22nd 2013 when Asup went on seven days warning strike. The Asup have been on strike since 10months ago while COASU joined the strike 6months ago. However,the Government had continued to neglect the demand of the union", the statement said

The union said Government had only commissioned the Governing council of six out of the polytechnics that were omitted in first schedule and raised the need of assessment committee while it refused to pay the CONTISS 15 arrears and did not release the white paper on visitation panel of the polytechnics and also establish an area of intervention in infrastructure in polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

The leadership of Nigeria Students at the end of her meeting came up with the following demands. 1, Reduction of school fees of both Polytechnics and colleges of Education Both States and Fedral.

2,Equalization of BSC and HND.
3, Implementation of NPC(National polytechnic Commission.

4,commission of Infrastructure both in Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

5, Payment of allowance to the polytechnics and colleges of Education lecturers.

If truly transformation is to transform Nigeria,it should start with Education. It is believed Education is for all and every Nigerian child has equal right,we have come to a conclusion that the federal Government is being partial and sentimental and does not show any concern for the polytechnics and colleges of education Students that has been on strike for the past 10months.

The student leadership is appealing to the Federal Government to do justice to the Educational sector in Nigeria for everyone to feel the impact of the transformation agenda of Mr president. Finally, we urge the security agents to speed up their search for the missing Nigerian Students. Nigerian students are also threatening to go for Demonstration due to their accumulated grievances if not for the intervention of Comr Jator Abido the National Cord of Niger Delta youth Council a one time student leader of Nans that appeal to them to excises patient that soon this issue will be resolve".
