RIVERS STATE AC APPLAUDS SUPREME COURT VERDICT AS CELESTINE OMEHIA’S EXERCISE IN FUTILITY IS ABORTED

By Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze

The Rivers State AC had earlier on in a press statement -following Monday 28th September 2009 decision by the supreme court to abort moves by Amaechi to halt proceedings in a petition by Chief Soberekon of Accord Party challenging his victory- clearly stated that all attempts by Soberekon and Omehia -who from all indications are puppets in the hands of Abuja based Rivers PDP fugitives- to challenge Amaechi's victory, were merely exercises in futility.

It came to us as no surprise therefore, when on the 2nd of November 2009 in Abuja, in a full panel of the supreme court led by Justice A.K. Alu; Justice .G. Ade Oguntade spoke this terse words directed at Celestine Omehia, "This court is the final court in this country; we have a duty to make sure that justice is done. When we give our judgment, nobody can re-open it. Your mission here today is futile. Nothing will come out of it", and by so doing sealing Omehia's fate as his frivolous application seeking to nullify Governor Amaechi's appointment as Governor of Rivers State was dismissed.

With this decision, not only has the Supreme Court reaffirmed its historic decision taken 2yrs ago in ruling in favour of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, it has also reaffirmed the AC's growing confidence in the apex court in its dispensation of justice.

In reacting to the news of the judgement, Prince Tonye Princewill fresh from a whirlwind political jaunt to Abuja and Benin, commended the Justice Aloysius katsina Alu led panel for its landmark judgment whilst stating that with this verdict the final nail has been driven into the coffin of speculations concerning Amaechi's rule and with this, the Governor can now face the affairs of state squarely without unnecessary distractions.

Prince Tonye Princewill acknowledged the reported orderly conduct of supporters of Amaechi and Omehia at the court premises in Abuja following the verdict and called upon everyone to shun every act that could threaten the hard won peace in the state and instead join hands with the Governor to build the state.

When following Amaechi's Supreme court victory in 2007 and the subsequent decision of the AC leader Prince Tonye Princewill to withdraw his petition/case at the election tribunal which hitherto had been on challenging the veracity of Omehia's victory at the polls in favour of partnering with the governor in what has today evolved to become a strategic partnership that is a major reference point in the Nation's polity; Many were the naysayers who believed Princewill had made a big blunder. But with this development the AC Rivers State has yet again been vindicated.

We would once again like to call on all political dissidents of Rivers State origin to consider it expedient to desist from any attempt to destabilise the polity and no better time than now are Justice A.K. Alu's words at the court apt “if anybody is aggrieved by the court's decision, the proper venue to appeal the judgment is the Heavens where God Almighty reigns supreme as the judge and not the earth, Nigeria where you hold sway”
