JOE IGBOKWE Says it's childish, baseless BEVERLY HILLS, February 24, (THEWILL) - The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as laughable and dis-oriented the recent allegation by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the State Assembly is not alive to its responsibilities because it allegedly passing anti smoking law and law on indecent dressing at the expense of more pressing bills.

The party said apart from the pettiness and idleness that afflict Lagos PDP, the party continues to demonstrate a worrying degree of ignorance of both the working of government and the activities of the government it purports to oppose through uncoordinated press releases.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by the State Interim Publicity Secretary of the APC, Joe Igbokwe, the party said by alleging that the Lagos State Assembly passed a non existing law on indecent dressing, the state PDP is demonstrating a bare understanding of what goes on in Lagos apart from its bizarre obsession with making lie-filled insinuations with the hope that such will help its pitiable political fate.

'We wonder where PDP got the information about Lagos State House of Assembly passing laws on   indecent dressing.

To the best of our knowledge of that of Lagosians, there was no such bill tabled, debated and passed by the Lagos House of Assembly.

Mindful of the fact that such bill could only exist in the fertile imagination of the PDP, we advise Lagosians to be careful in devouring the lies, the fabrications and the gossip that spew from the Lagos chapter of the PDP.

' For purposes of clarity, we state that the State Assembly tabled and debated and passed the anti public smoking bill into law in consonance with worldwide concern about public smoking.

It is a general worldwide trend to restrict smoking outside of the public space given the well- known health hazards associated with smoking, both for smokers and non- smokers.

'We wonder why a party that professes a hypocritical concern for the welfare of the Nigerian people should quarrel with this well-received and well-timed law, if not to boost its non-existent political strength.

There was no bill on indecent dressing tabled or debated in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

'The Lagos State Governor issued an executive directive that workers and those who have business to do within the State House Alausa should dress decently or  stay clear of the government offices.

What actually does the PDP have against restriction on indecent dressing? 'Lagos APC would not be drawn into the idyllic allegation that the State Assembly is not discharging its duties well.

That is for Lagosians to determine and what better way to determine it than the steady march of progress going on in Lagos for many years now.

'Perhaps, the PDP is expecting a situation where the state assembly becomes its stooge in its wish that Lagos be locked down in petty quarrel between the executive and legislative arms of government.

'Lagos PDP is just being a disappointed scarecrow in its assessment of Lagos State Assembly and no serious person will give its pejorative assessment any second look.

'We rather advice Lagos PDP to stop ridiculing itself by its hare brained effort to sow mischief and rancour where there is none just because it is desperately in need of political capital to cash.

' According to APC, 'The Lagos State House of Assembly is an active and very responsible legislature, peopled by men and women of high integrity and learning and it is discharging its legislative duties professionally.

'We state, without equivocation that the Lagos State Assembly is the most competent and active in Nigeria and this flows from the sophistication of Lagosians who cannot be represented by nit wits and dullards, the type the PDP, as a party is noted for producing.

'We are happy that Lagosians are savouring such dividends of legislative diligence and competence and that the gossips and antics of Lagos PDP will neither change nor stop the Assembly from continuing to carry outs its right and proper legislative duties.
