2015: Group Backs Jonathan's Re-Election, Orji For Senate

A coalition of South East Youth and Pressure groups has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan and Gov. Theodore Orji to contest for a second term and the Abia Central senate seat, respectively.

 
 
In an address presented by the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Chuks Ibegbu at a solidarity/ endorsement rally for the duo at Ibeku High School, Umuahia, said Jonathan and Orji has through their visionary leadership, brought hope to Nigeria and Abia state.

 
 
“Today President Goodluck Jonathan has through his transformation agenda given focused leadership to Nigeria. This has led to improvement in the Power, Transport, Aviation, Agricultural sectors. Our roads and railway are receiving attention never seen before in this country. This is also a sustained youths and women empowerment through the U-win programme.  What endeared President Jonathan to Nigerians is his humbleness and humility. He is a patriot to the core. He is addressing the needs of all parts of Nigeria with a fatherly disposition. It is all for these and more that we the Youths and Pressure Groups of the South East resolved to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.”

 
 
On the adoption of Gov. Orji for the Abia Central senatorial seat in 2015, the coalition recalled that he was adjudged the best performing Governor in the South East zone by the Youth Wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo for his achievements in the area of security, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and other legacy projects.

 
 
'” Recently, Gov. Orji initiated an airport and seaport projects which will be implemented through a public private partnership. This is the first time these kinds of projects have been initiated in Abia state. Only a visionary leader can do that. Nigeria needs strong representation and voice in the senate. They need men of honour and integrity at the senate. This is why we urge Gov. Orji to accept to represent Abia Central zone and Ndigbo at the senate.”

 
 
Speaking at the occasion, Gov. Orji thanked the coalition for their support to him and President Jonathan. The governor boasted that the road is clear for the President to win re-election in 2015.

 
 
On calls for him to run for senate in 2015, Gov. Orji who disclosed that he has been under pressure to run for senate in 2015 and attributed the calls to his numerous achievements in the state.

 
 
Responding, President Jonathan commended the coalition for their sense of patriotism and recalled the various programmes his administration has initiated to better the lives of the youths in the country.

 
Jonathan who was represented by the National Coordinator, Goodluck Support Group, Chief Jerry Opara added that Nigeria only needs peaceful and humble people in government.

 
 
“We need men who can't be easily provoked. If not, this country would have boiled judging by the disposition of the APC. It is important to have in the senate people who love this country. Gov. Theodore Orji is one of them.

We want to tap from his experience of how he brought peace to Abia.”

 
 
The highlight of the event was the handing over of the ofo (insignia) of the 2015 political project to the president and Gov. Orji. According to a traditional ruler and Managing Director, Agura Hotels, Abuja, Eze M.O Kanu, who administered the ofo on the duo, “With this ofo, the two political projects are good as actualized in 2015.”

 
 
In attendance at the rally was the frontline governorship aspirant in the state, Barr. Friday Nwosu, Labour and Productivity Minister, Emeka Wogu; Commissioner for Works, Longman Nwachukwu; Special Adviser to the Governor, Capt. Awa Udonsi Awgu; among several youths groups and party supporters across the five states of the zone.
