By Emmanuel Ajibulu

The Federal House of Representatives suspended its relevant rules and set aside Order XIX, Rule 217 to admit the family and constituents of late Hon. Nomiye Oloye Raphael as a mark of last respect for the deceased Rep who, until his death at the age of 50, represented Ondo, IIaje/ Ese Odo Federal Constituency on the platform of Labour Party.

The valedictory session started solemnly on Thursday December 5, 2013 on a very sad note with a speech by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. He said that it was a very sad day for the 7th Assembly, having lost an integral member of the House. Ihedioha described the late Nomiye as a tolerant and accommodating person, adding that his death called for sober reflection.

Consequently, leader of Ondo State National Assembly caucus, Hon Joseph Iranola Akinlaja described late Nomiye as a beloved community promoter whose deep sense of maturity and loyalty to friendship distinguished him for the 'Man of the Year Award” which he was to receive a week before his demise.

Adding that, ''Nomiye was the Chairman, IIaje Major Communities (7 communities); the chairman, (21 IIaje Communities of) Express/Conoco oil Communities Association; The Chairman, AICECUM (49 Chevron Host Communities in Ilaje Ondo State). The affable politician also served as Chairman, IIaje Regional Development Council. He equally served on the Board of the Ondo State oil producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) as COMMISSIONER.

He is an industrious person and a successful businessman, to his credit he was Chairman/M.D of RAFEGOS International Companies Ltd. The death of such a man of sterling achievements at the age of only 50 is a big blow that beats one's imagination; Hon. Nomiye will be greatly missed. We pray that God will strengthen the family he left behind and also grant repose to the soul of the departed. Amen''

Speakers ranging from leaders of various caucuses that cut across 6 geo-political zones took turns to render valedictory speeches as they pay their last respect to their late colleague, Hon. Raphael Oloye Nomiye. Also Senator Kunlere Boluwaji of the Upper House in national Assembly who is representing Ondo South Senatorial district extolled the virtues of the departed federal legislator.

On the part of the Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal (CFR), he described the late Nomiye as a serious-minded person who went about his business with tact. “He was not the sort of person who joins issues unnecessarily. I enjoyed working with him. Nothing in life is permanent; it's only our services and attitude toward others that shall stand the test of time", the Speaker in an emotion laden tone reflected.
