Transcorp, UBA, Ecobank, Zenith lift equity trading as market capitalisation grows by 0.40%

Equity transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed in an upbeat yesterday as the market capitalisation increased by 0.40 per cent or N47 billion to N11.652 trillion from N11.605 trillion traded the previous day.

Also the NSE All Share Index (ASI) enhanced by 148.10 basis point to 36,585.08 point from 36,436.98 point.

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) exchanged 54.571 million shares of N86.985 million; United Bank for Africa (UBA) sold 38.721 million shares valued at N286.721 million while Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) also sold 26.093 million shares worth N351.017 million. Zenith Bank Plc exchanged a total of 23.585 million valued at N471.739 million.

Okomu Oil led the losers chart, declining by N2.05 kobo to close at N46.00, Presco Plc trailed by N0.80 kobo to close at N32.50 kobo while Oando Plc N0.45 kobo to close at N10.35 kobo. Other stocks that recorded price depreciation were Jos Breweries and Livestock which loss 0.21 kobo and 0.18 kobo  to close N4.17  and N3.72 per share.

Volume of shares traded also increased marginally, as investors traded 279.159 million shares worth N3.039 billion in 3310 deals against 269.887 million shares valued at N1.733 billion in 4043 deals.

Further analysis of yesterday's trading showed that Guinness Nigeria Plc led the gainers table, appreciating by 12.70 kobo to close by N266.70 per share, Forte Oil followed by 1.69 kobo to close at N37.39 per share. Nigerian Breweries, Larfarge Wapco and Total Nigeria Plc improved by 1.00, N0.50 and 0.49 kobo to close at N165.00, N99.00 and N157.00 per share.
