U.S. gives N88 Million grants to Main One
The United State Consul General in Lagos, Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins, has signed $550,000 (N88 milion) United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) grant to help Main One Cable Company extends its services to the Niger Delta.
'The project involves extending approximately 300 miles of undersea fiber optic cabling and supporting infrastructure between two Nigeria's most important commercial centres.
'The extension would connect to the existing Main One cable system, which spans approximately 4,500 miles and provides additional capacity for international and Internet connectivity for its beneficiary countries, including Nigeria,' Hawkins said.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Main One Cable Company, Funke Opeke, emphasising the importance of the grant, explained that one of the challenges facing the firm has been 'extending our services beyond the immediate coastal areas where our cables terminates.'
