Konduga Massacre: Shettima Condoles Residents

The Borno state Governor Hon. Kashim Shettima has commensurate with the people of Konduga town of Konduga local Government of the state over the massacre of over 50 people by the suspected members of the Boko Haram sect over the weekend.

The Governor who visited the town to commiserate with victims and the people of the town said he has to cut short his visit to Abuja in order to condole with the people of Konduga over the terrible incident that occurred that led to the dead of many souls and properties worth millions of Naira destroyed.

He appealed to the people to be calm and cooperate with the security agencies and youth Vigilante group to restore peace in the town, and consider what happened to them as an act of God.

Shettima also donated N250,000 each to the family of those who lost their lives during the attack, N100,000 each per room burnt and two Hilux vehicles, 2 Golf cars and N5million to security agencies and civilian JTF to patrol the area.

Governor Shettima also promised to settle the medical bill of those injured and receiving treatment in various hospitals, adding that N50,000 will be given to each person after they were discharged from the hospitals

He appealed to the security agencies and the Civilian JTF not be deterred by the incident, as government is ready to assist them in whatever way, so that peace will be restored to the town and the state at large.

Taking the Governor round the area, the District Head of Konduga, Zannah Masu Yale said 42 men and 1 woman were killed in the attack, pointing out that the Boko Haram members arrived the town around 5:00AM when people were praying Subhi prayers (morning prayers) and opened fire on people coming out from the mosques and set ablaze over 50 houses.

Zannah Masu appealed to the Governor to assist the victims of the incident and thanked the governor for finding time to commensurate with their people.

A security operative who participated in the operation but does not want his name in print said the sect members came in two Hilux vehicles and 7 Golf cars and parked at the out skirt of the town and sneaked into the town, stressing that the sect commander climbed on top of one over head water tank while giving his members orders.

He stated that the sect members came with a lot of weapons including rocket propelled grenade launchers, GPMG among other sophisticated weapons.

A Civilian JTF who spoke to our correspondent, said that they can never be deterred by the attack until they fish out all Boko Haram sect members from the state.

A resident Mallam Goni Bukar who spoke to our correspondent in tears said that his wife was shot dead and 4 out of his 7 children were still missing as at the time of filling in this report and appealed to the government to come to their aid, as most of their houses and property were destroyed.
