New Attah Igala takes staff of office

The ancient city of Idah went agog yesterday when the new Attah of Igala, Idakwo Micheal Oboni, received the staff of office as President, Kogi State traditional council.

The ceremony, which witnessed visitors including sons and daughters of Igala kingdom, took place at the Attah's palace in Idah Local government area of Kogi state.

President Goodluck Jonathan congratulated the new Attah Igala on his successful transition to the throne of his forefathers.

Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Abbah Moro, urged the traditional ruler to use his reign to unite the people of Igala Kingdom.

The President canvassed support for the Igala nation, describing it as occupying a vital place in the country.

Governor Idris Wada expressed delight with the historic installation.

He called on the Attah to see to the several crises bedeviling the Igala chieftaincy institution, which he noted is on the increase.

The governor assured the monarch of his support, praising the peaceful emergence of the new Attah Igala.

Oboni promised to unite the people of Igala kingdom and called on the people to join hands with him in moving the kingdom forward.
