Government welcomes Deputy Auditor-General report on use of consultants in the public sector

PRETORIA, South-Africa, January 25, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Government has noted the Deputy Auditor-General's report on the use of consultants in the public sector at selected national departments and the recommendation to improve on control measures in order to get best value for services provided by external consultants.

Ministers and the heads of administration of affected government departments have already engaged extensively with the Auditor-General South Africa and have committed to take immediate action to remedy the current situation. The recommendations made in the report will be appraised and implemented where needed.

Acting GCIS CEO, Phumla Williams, said, “The role of the auditor-general is important to the country in providing independent assurance that governmental activities are carried out, and accounted for. Government is committed that the processes for appointing consultants will be strengthened and compliance with related legal frameworks and regulations will be applied”.

Williams applauded Auditor General's office for providing useful and relevant information that promotes oversight and accountability in government. She reiterated the government's commitment to promoting a clean administration.
