Veteran Journalist and Communications Expert, Dr. Kelechi ONYEAMOBI Joins The Nigerian Voice As The Editorial Board Chairman

Dr Kelechi Onyemaobi, a veteran Nigerian journalist and communications specialist, with 40 years working experience at both national and international levels has joined The Nigerian Voice as the Editorial Board Chairman.

Prior to joining The Nigerian Voice, Dr. Onyemaobi has worked as a news reporter, newspaper editor, Head of the Press & Information Office, Team Leader, Media Expert and Communications Specialist in both the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) systems.

Onyemaobi has a great flair for writing in the English Language, with two published books and more than 500 published news reports, feature articles and opinion columns in major Nigerian national newspapers, magazines, newsletters and on the Internet. Within the last 20 years, Onyemaobi contributed immensely to leading the Press, Information and Public Affairs and the Media and Communications functions in the European Union (EU) Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS; the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office, and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) Country Office in Abuja, Nigeria. Onyemaobi also served as a Communications Consultant with the World Bank.

Onyemaobi obtained a First-Class honours degree in English Studies (1983) at the University of Ife, Nigeria; a Master’s degree and a PhD in Media and Communication Studies – both from the University of Leicester, England, The United Kingdom. His special research area is media and democracy, with a special emphasis on press and politics in the Global South. Dr Onyemaobi also obtained a Certificate in Media History and Editorial Management at the University of Cambridge, England.

Onyemaobi started his journalism career in 1985 as a News Reporter with The Guardian newspapers – and rose through the ranks to become the pioneer Editor of both The Post Express newspapers, Lagos, and The AUTHORITY newspapers, Abuja, Nigeria.

Dr Onyemaobi is happy to return to journalism, his first love, after retiring recently from the United Nations as a Communications Specialist.
