Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Please Pay Workers Backlog Of Owed Salaries

By Nelson Ekujumi

This is definitely not the best of times for the good people of Ondo state, especially workers in the employment of the state government as reports just filtering in from Akure, the Ondo state capital, has it that the workers strike over unpaid backlog of salaries owed by the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko administration in the last couple of months for which they have been on strike for weeks, appears not to have an end in sight as the workers have insisted on continuing with the strike because the state government is unable to fashion out ways to pay the owed workers their salaries.

Thus, one can only sympathize with the good people of Ondo state who from all indications will have to celebrate the forthcoming Ramadan festival which is just a few weeks away with empty pockets because it will be easier for the camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for the workers to receive their owed salaries of over 6 months soon.

One is at a loss to explain how a state like Ondo which is an oil producing state, which apart from collecting federal allocation on a monthly basis, also receives 13% derivation funds consistently from the Federal Government, can be owing workers salaries when we cannot identify project(s) on ground in Ondo state commensurate in economic value with the allocations collected over the years that Governor Mimiko has invested the people’s money into for the collective benefit of the people.

As we empathize with the pathetic economic plight of the good people of Ondo state, who are getting a raw deal from Governor Olusegun Mimiko through nonpayment of backlog of owed salaries as their reward for years of support and loyalty to his administration, may we call on all men of goodwill to prevail on Governor Mimiko, in the name of God to do the needful because even the Holy book admonishes that a labourer deserves his wages.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko, please pay Ondo state workers what is due to them for their labour, no more, no less.

My brother the average Nigerian governor is a certified thief worst than an armed robber. This non payment of salaries of workers can be traced to the insincerity and selfishness of the average black man.
