SAN FRANCISCO, August 31, (THEWILL) - Female weightlifter, Ivory Nwokorie won the 44kg power lifting category on Friday to earn Nigeria its second gold medal at the ongoing London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Nwokorie edged out Turk Cigdem Dede and Ukrainian Lidiia Soloviova, who clinched the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Her participation in the category of the games came on the back of her bronze-medal placement at the third Fazaa International Para-powerlifting Championship in Dubai last year.

Nigeria, failing to record any medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games proper, landed its first gold medal at the ongoing Paralympics on Thursday when 33-year-old Yakubu Adesokan smashed the world record in the men’s 48kg category by lifting 178kg.
