By Lere Olayinka

More than 150 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Igede-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government area of Ekiti State are to get the roof of their houses repaired by the PDP leader in the town, Ambassador Gbenga Olofin.

The intervention programme tagged; The Umbrella Protection (TUP), which was aimed at protecting the people from rainfall, is to commence within the next 15 days.

Speaking while receiving list of those who registered for the programme today, Ambassador Olofin said he was poised to use the little resources that God gave him to alleviate the sufferings of his people.

He said; "Call it politics or whatever, what I am concerned about first and foremost is the welfare of my people, and I do not need to be interested in any elective position to assist them.

"Like I said before, whatever I do for the people here is just a way of thanking God for His kindness. Most importantly too, we are concerned with the economic liberation of our people."

On what informed his decision to carry out the roof repair exercise, Olofin said; "I am a member of PDP and our party symbol is umbrella. When u are under the umbrella, you are protected from sun and rain.

"It is therefore not acceptable to me to see the roof of the house of some of our members and supporters leaking.

"For instance, I visited one of our leaders recently and it rained, the whole house was full of water. I asked how much it would take to fix the roof and the man said he needed just six iron sheets. Imagine that! Just six iron sheets? It was that day that I made up my mind to fix all leaking roofs of houses belonging to members of our party in the town to prevent rainfall from disturbing them.

"Already, more than 150 people have registered and we hope to commence work within the next two weeks."
