ORJI GIVES SUCCOUR TO PRISONERS

The Abia state government has presented mattresses totaling 610 to the Nigerian prison services Abia state command to help alleviate the problems of the inmates.

Handing over the items to the comptroller of prisons Umuahia, Mrs. Kate Ononye the governor said that prisoners deserve some comfort.

He said that it is erroneous to think that all prisoners are criminals pointing out that many are awaiting trial.

According to him, even those who have been condemned are there for reformation and also need succor.

He noted that the staff of the Nigerian prisons are doing their best and therefore need the support of the government to succeed, adding that he is in government to look after everyone including prisoners.

The governor said that more mattresses will come and noted that accommodation is inadequate, sanitation zero,while nothing is working in the prisons.

Responding, the comptroller of prisons, Abia command, Kate Ononye thanked the governor for his invaluable support to the Nigeria prisons and pleaded with the governor to help them re-roof their leaking roof.
