PRINCCEWILL CHARGES NIGER DELTA YOUTHS ON COMMITMENT

By Action Congressriversstate

Leader of the Action Congress in Rivers State and member, Federal Government Committee on Vision 2020, Prince Tonye Princewill has once again, berated the Federal Government over what it described as its unseriousness with the development of the Niger Delta region.

Princewill, who stated this while speaking with a delegation of the National leadership of the Niger Delta Youth Movement,[NDYM], which paid him a visit in his Port Harcourt residence Tuesday.

“The Federal Government is not serious with Niger Delta Development, until they surprise me. The Federal Government is way behind where it should be on the Niger Delta. The Federal government's action on the Niger Delta is zero. Ninety nine percent of the Niger Delta people's lives are going down. No electricity. No industries. There is an increase in rural-urban migration”, he stated.

Continuing, Princewill, who is also a member of the Federal Government Technical Committee on the Niger Delta, challenged the youths to be united and articulate in order to move the region forward.

He condemned the gullible attitude of some youths in the region, whom he said, are easily compromised with monetary offer at the expense of the genuine struggle for the developme nt and emancipation of people of the region and urged the Youths to be focused.

“We are trying to get peoples voices together on the way forward for the region. I am looking for a radical group that is genuinely interested in the development of the region. We need to change the image of our youths. The Niger Delta Youth is respected and feared. If you can bring yourselves into a formidable group and tell the truth at all times, that will be good. Don't be afraid to confront the government when it derails. Don't be compromised. We want a situation where we will aggressively say the truth always. In the Niger Delta, we have an urgent problem and need an urgent rescue. We have a massive task. We are looking for excellence”, he stressed.

He further charged the youth leaders on grassroots development of the youths, tasking them to devise strategies of ensuring actual grassroots participation, especially, as it concerns dividends of democracy reaching the grassroots citizens.

Princewill, who is one of the persons presently being considered by the President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua for the position of Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission[NDDC], however pledged to stand by the youths if they embrace uprightness, sincerity and commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region.

Earlier in his speech, President designate of the Niger Delta Youth Movement, Prince Ajulisan Akumagba said they were in the AC leader's house to invite him as a Guest of Honour to the inauguration of the Movement's new National Executive Council, scheduled to hold in Benin City, the Edo State Capital next week.

Prince Akumagba, who expressed happiness with the Prince over what he described as his relentless effo rts to ensure that succor is brought to the people of the region, promised that his administration shall not fail the people, adding that the AC leader's advise shall be followed.

He however assured that programmes are already lined up and the necessary plans being made by the in-coming National Executive Council of the Movement to ensure that the wrongs meted on the region are righted
